COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements Update

Updated June 6, 2023 to include a new opt-out / declination option

All incoming and re-admitted students mustsatisfy TB screening and immunization requirements as mandated by the UC Office of the President by the established deadlines (see below).

Steps to Complete

  1. See below for your formal deadline to comply.

  2. Log in to eTang “Medical clearances” page. 
  3. Complete the TB requirements.
    1. Complete the "TB Screening Questions" on eTang under "Medical Clearances."
    2. Submit additional documentation, if necessary.
  4. Complete the immunization items by entering your immunization dates or titer results on eTang under "Medical Clearances." 
    1. Note: only enter immunization or titer information that appears on your records.
    2. You will need to click ‘Update’ on the line for each item in order to enter your immunization dates.
    3. If you do not have the vaccines or immunization record, you will need to obtain the vaccines.
  5. Upload your immunization or titer records by clicking 'Update' on the line for 'Immunization Record’.
    1. You must upload medical records in English for each immunization and/or titer that you have entered on the eTang portal.
  6. Read more about the required age, dose, and interval parameters for each vaccine requirement:
  1. Check your compliance status on eTang by selecting "Medical Clearances."
  2. Schedule any outstanding vaccines/titers as soon as possible with your medical provider.
  3. On the eTang portal you will also see a list of RECOMMENDED vaccines, this is separate from the required ones listed above, however, we strongly recommend you also get those as well.

Please note the following: 

  • There are no religious exemptions for the Varicella, MMR, Pertussis, or Meningococcal conjugate requirements per the UCOP immunization policy.
  • TB testing can now be done without regard the timing of COVID vaccinations. The timing for TB testing after a live virus vaccine (MMR and Varicella) still needs to be one month. 
  • Students who are not fully compliant with all Mandatory TB & Immunization Requirements by the formal deadline may have a late fee and an enrollment block placed on their account for the following semester (see deadlines below).
    • Concurrent enrollment students will not get an enrollment hold for non-compliance with TB and Immunization requirements.
  • Students who falsify any immunization or TB screening information that is submitted will not be compliant with the requirements and may face disciplinary action if found to have violated the Berkeley Campus Code of Student Conduct (see Section V, Grounds for Discipline).

Suggested Timeline for Completing Requirements

Months Before Deadline What To Do
3 Months
  • Collect vaccination and TB test records. To do so, contact your past doctors offices and ask family members. See our webpage on finding your records for more information.
  • Submit TB screening questions on eTang.
2 Months
  • Make appointments for needed vaccinations and/or TB tests/chest X-rays.
1 Month
  • Make appointments for follow-up vaccines. 
  • Ensure your immunization and TB records are submitted on the eTang portal.  Vaccine records need to be submitted in English.

  • Due Date: July 31, 2023

Influenza (flu) Vaccine Requirement:

  • For the 2023-24 Flu Season enter record of vaccine or submit declination in eTang by Dec 1, 2023

First day of SHIP and of Tang eligibility at student pricing;
First day to schedule Tang appointments for missing vaccines/titers

  • August 1, 2023

Late fees for non-compliance for TB and Immunizations (NOT including COVID-19):

  • September 1, 2023

Enrollment holds for non-compliance for TB and Immunizations (NOT including COVID-19) posted to Cal Central (impacts Spring 2024 enrollment)

  • October 1, 2023

Note: We are no longer placing enrollment holds for noncompliance with COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

Summer 2023 New Graduate Students and Summer Bridge / Freshman Edge Students (continuing in the Fall)

Students in the following programs:

  • Executive Master of Business Administration
  • Master of Financial Engineering
  • Master of Laws (LL.M. executive track)
  • Master of Public Affairs
  • Master of Real Estate Development & Design
  • Master of Arts in Teaching
  • Summer Bridge 
  • Freshman Edge

First day to complete/submit immunization records via eTang

  • May 1, 2023

Formal deadline to submit immunization (including COVID-19) and TB clearance records

  • May 31, 2023

  • Master of Real Estate Development & Design - June 15, 2023
  • Master of Arts in Teaching - June 15, 2023

Summer 2023 Sessions Only (not continuing in the Fall)

First day to complete/submit immunization records via eTang*

  • February 15, 2023

Formal deadline to submit COVID-19 immunization requirements:

  • 7 days after your COVID-19 immunization requirement checklist is assigned**

Note: LL.M. executive track students do not fall into that category and should see the above category for dates/information

*Summer-only students are only required to meet the Covid-19 requirement in the eTang portal.

**There are no late fees applied for non-compliance with the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for Summer session-only students.  Enrollment holds may be placed if a student registers for a future term/semester beyond Summer sessions and must be completed before enrolling. 

Spring 2024 New and Re-admitted Students

First day to complete/submit immunization records via eTang

  • November 1, 2023

COVID-19 Vaccine Policy Requirement: 

  • Due: December 1, 2023
    • Enter record of COVID-19 vaccine or submit a declination request in the Medical Clearances section of eTang

Influenza (flu) Vaccine Requirement:

  • Due: December 1, 2023
    • Enter record of Influenza (flu) vaccine or submit a declination request in the Medical Clearances section of eTang

TB and Immunization Requirements 

  • December 31, 2023*

  • January 1, 2024

Late fees for non-compliance for TB and Immunizations (NOT including COVID-19 and Flu):

  • February 1, 2024

Enrollment holds for non-compliance  for TB and Mandatory Immunizations posted to Cal Central (impacts Summer and Fall 2024 enrollment)

  • March 1, 2024  
  • Concurrent enrollment students will not get an enrollment hold for non-compliance for TB and immunization requirements.  But we strongly recommend that you complete all these requirements before coming to campus.
