SHIP for Non-Registered Students
Who May Enroll?
- Graduate students on Filing Fee status: Graduate students must apply to their academic departments for official Filing Fee status. Filing Fee status is in lieu of registration to either file a dissertation, file a thesis, or to take a comprehensive exam. Filing Fee students are not allowed to take courses while on Filing Fee.
- Undergraduate students on Concurrent Enrollment status: Undergraduate students in their final semester of study who are completing degree requirements or recovering from academic probation through UC Berkeley Extension's Concurrent Enrollment Program.
- Approved Medical Withdrawal or Pregnancy Leave status: Graduate or undergraduate students who have approved temporary medical withdrawal or pregnancy leave from the University while retaining student status.
Note:
- Filing Fee, Concurrent Enrollment, and medical withdrawal/pregnancy leave students are NOT automatically enrolled and must follow the enrollment steps below to purchase voluntary SHIP. Students on voluntary SHIP have the option to enroll their dependents on SHIP. Please see Insurance for Dependents for details.
- Students who are academically dismissed are not eligible to enroll in voluntary SHIP.
Cost of SHIP 2024-25
- Undergraduates: $2,014 (one semester only)
- Graduates: $3,221 (one semester only)

Enrollment Instructions
| Graduate Students on Filing Fee Status |
1. CalCentral(link is external) must show you are on filing fee status. 2. Submit a letter from your academic department confirming your approved Filing Fee and good standing status to the SHIP office by secure message through the eTang portal. 3. Complete and submit the online enrollment form found below during the enrollment period. |
