Support for Students & Staff Regarding Berkeley Employee Arrest

You may have heard or read news about a UC Berkeley employee named Roy Waller who was arrested and charged with a series of rapes that occurred more than a decade ago in several Northern California communities. He is currently in custody in Sacramento. He is an employee in the UC Berkeley Environment, Health and Safety department and is on investigative leave.

Needless to say, this news is shocking. None of the crimes he is alleged to have committed took place on or near campus, but this is nonetheless deeply unsettling.

We are aware that this will have a significant impact on campus, within University Health Services, and on members of our community, and particularly for those already living with trauma.

Our priority is to make sure that students, faculty, and staff have the support they need.

A reminder that PATH to Care serves students and employees. This confidential and 24/7 resource is specifically for issues related to sexual violence and harassment. Survivors, victims, and those impacted by such forms of violence and harm can reach out to PATH to Care Center for support, (510) 643-2005.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is available to all students for emotional support and can provide confidential individual counseling and consultation. (510) 642-9494.

Social Services (SOS) Counseling is available for students presenting with sexual assault/rape, relationship or other violence concerns. (510) 642-6074.

Faculty and staff may access confidential individual counseling, group support, and management consultation through Be Well at Work - Employee Assistance, (510) 643-7754.
