Managing Emotions (10 Weeks)

This group, based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), is designed to teach students skills to manage and regulate emotions more effectively. In a structured and supportive environment, participants will learn skills to modify behavioral, emotional, and thinking patterns associated with problems in living that cause misery and distress. Participants MUST be in concurrent weekly individual therapy to participate in this group.

This group requires a brief pre-group meeting with the group facilitator(s) before joining.

LGBTQIA+ Support Group

This in-person group is for students who identify as LGBTQIA+, as well as those who are questioning and exploring. Join us in co-creating a supportive and affirming space to explore themes that promote wellness and connection. Topics will include but are not limited to: coming out, identity development, family of origin, chosen family, relationships, dating, healthcare, intersectional and multicultural identities, living out on campus, building communities of support, non-monogamy, and stress management.

Graduate Men’s Support Group

This weekly support group is offered for students who self-identify as male grad students and wish to come together to discuss the challenges of being a grad student and/or any other topics for which they are seeking support. Common themes within the group include (but are not limited to) ways to deal with the hurdles & hassles of school, find ways to connect with others, discuss relationship issues, and consider ways to manage stress & live a balanced life as a Berkeley student. From Self-Criticism to Kindness (6 Weeks)

This group will provide a space for students to learn skills for building self-compassion and kindness, as well as opportunities to offer support to one another. Topics will include: fostering an attitude of kindness towards self & others, building self-esteem through self-acceptance, and using mindfulness/meditation to facilitate resilience, motivation & self-confidence.

Mindfulness Meditation Drop-In Group

Meditation has a lot of health benefits; such as reducing stress, improving relaxation, enhancing sense of well-being and alleviating health symptoms. This drop-in group is set up for students who want to try meditation and explore some techniques to do it. There is no need for commitment to come to all sessions. Students who had experiences doing meditation are also welcome to join to meditate together as well.

Meditation is an intentional practice, where inward focus can increase calmness, concentration, and emotional understanding and balance. Career Planning: Surviving and Thriving at Cal

This 4-week group is designed to help clarify your values related to career planning and set goals for managing stresses associated with imposter syndrome, socio-cultural-familial influences, and indecision. The group will include exercises to increase career self-awareness and strategies for navigating challenges in academic and career planning. Students will also have the opportunity to share their experiences, and give support to their peers experiencing similar stressors.

Berkeley Hope Scholars Support Group

This supportive counseling group is open to students that are and were part of the foster care system, probation youth, or were orphaned before the age of 18. In this group, we hope to create a safe space for individuals to explore topics relating specifically to system-impacted students navigating in a higher education community. Keeping Your Balance Bipolar Workshop

This workshop is for students who have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and want to focus on staying well and preventing relapse. The workshop will focus on monitoring symptoms, recognizing warning signs, understanding the impact of individual symptoms, and developing an action plan to prevent relapse into (hypo)mania and/ or depression. The workshop will be in two sessions, each 1.5 hours, and held 1 week apart. Students should plan to attend both sessions.
