There are new food experts in town. Please meet the Nutrition Outreach Workers, aka NOW. These eight amazing students were selected from many qualified applicants for a brand new work-study program housed at University Health Services. Thanks to Basic Needs Security and Wellness Fee funding, NOW team members are receiving intensive nutrition training in three main areas:

  • general nutrition for health and wellness
  • food and cooking skills
  • body image and eating disorder prevention

The NOWs will be passing along their knowledge to fellow students at several types of events around campus. For example, you may find them assisting in NST 20: Personal Food Security & Wellness, leading a cooking demo at RSF or the Food Pantry, or running a body image workshop at your residence. Keep your eyes open for a series of fun, informative videos the NOWs are cooking up. And finally, if you prefer to get your info from, say, blog posts like this one, you’re in luck!  Next month, Ask the RD will become Nutrition NOW. I am thrilled by the energy, creativity, and commitment the NOW team brings to improving the nutrition and wellness of UC Berkeley students.
