Joan Hauser, RN, MPH

Specialty Clinic Nurse Manager

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Joan Hauser joined UHS in 2015, assumed the role of RN Collaborative Care Manager in 2017, and transitioned into the Specialty Nurse Manager position in 2019. She received her BSN from Samuel Merritt University (2008) and her MPH from the University of San Francisco (2014). Joan has a special clinical interest in providing whole-person care and behavioral/ mental health.

Carrie Whitaker, RN, PHN

Infection Control and Prevention Nurse

Carrie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond VA; a Master of Public Health (MPH) within the Infectious Disease and Vaccinology Division at UC Berkeley School of Public Health; and has practiced as a Certified Wound and Ostomy Nurse (CWON) since 2012, with her training accomplished at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio TX. She has practiced in acute care Medical-Surgical, home health, and public health nursing.

Before joining UHS, Carrie worked as a Nurse Consultant at both the CA Department of Public Health and the CA Department of Health Care Services, focused on population health management, quality assurance/quality improvement, provider outreach and education, and patient advocacy. Carrie's specialties are in public health nursing, healthcare-associated infection prevention, teaching, and population health. She has a passion for public health communications and human-centered, community-informed, health program design.

In her free time, Carrie loves spending time with friends and family, traveling, bicycles/motorcycles, camping, dancing, and seeing a good movie in the theater.

Urgent Care

	Amy Wheeler, RN Urgent Care Nurse Supervisor	Amy Wheeler joined UHS in 2013 as a Registered Nurse in Urgent Care and moved to the Occupational Health team in 2020. In 2024, she took on the role of Urgent Care Nurse Supervisor. She received her BA in Anthropology and her BSN/BN from Samuel Merritt in Oakland.
	Angela Bonaventura, RN Pronouns: She/Her/Hers	Angela Bonaventura joined UHS in 2012 as a Registered Nurse in Urgent Care. She received her BA in Humanities from the New College of California and her associate's degree in Nursing from Chabot College. In addition to working at UHS, Angela volunteers on medical missions to support communities impacted by natural disasters.
	Generosa Buenaflor-Roth, RN	Generosa Buenaflor-Roth, RN, is a Registered Nurse in the Urgent Care department.
	James Daniel Campbell, RN/ADN
	Janice Chen, RN	A graduate of Cal State East Bay (CSUEB), Janice Chen joined UHS in late 2021 as a clinical nurse on the Urgent Care team. Before she arrived at UC Berkeley, Janice lived and worked in San Diego. In her free time, Janice finds herself getting lost in a good book, cooking tasty dishes, and exploring the world through travel.
	Ursula De Maio, RN
	Kathryn Haught, RN	Kathryn Haught joined UHS in 2016 as a Nurse in Urgent Care. She attended nursing school at Cal State University, Chico (2011). Kathryn has a special clinical interest in health promotion, wellness, and diabetes management education.
	Maggie Hu, RN Pronouns: She/Her/Hers	Maggie earned her BSN from San Diego State University. Her experience includes working in inpatient Hematology/Oncology, the Emergency Department, and as an IV infusion nurse at a medspa.
	Michele McLaverty, RN	Michele McLaverty, RN, joined UHS in 2016 as a Registered Nurse in the Urgent Care department.
	Ramon Prieto, RN	Ramon Prieto, RN is a Registered Nurse in Urgent Care.
	Sara Sloan, RN	Sara Sloan, RN, is a Registered Nurse in the Urgent Care department.
	Saylom Swensen, RN	Saylom Swensen, RN, is a Registered Nurse in the Urgent Care department.
	Connie Thomas, RN	Connie Thomas joined UHS in 2018 as a Registered Nurse in Urgent Care. She received her BSN from the Medical College of Virginia and has a special clinical interest in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus or SLE.

Travel/Immunization

	Mary Anne Hammond, RN, BSN, AE-C Pronouns: She/Her/Hers	Mary Anne Hammond joined UHS as a Registered Nurse in the Travel/Immunization clinic. She received her BSN from San Jose State University and has a special clinical interest in health promotion and asthma education (she’s a certified asthma educator). Additional Languages: Tagalog and Ilocano
	Emily Moore, RNP, NP Pronouns: She/Her/Her Nurse Manager	Emily joined UHS in 2024 as a Nurse Manager, Travel & Immunizations. Emily completed undergraduate degrees in biology from UCSD and in nursing from University of Memphis. Emily worked as a nurse at UCSF in Hematology-Oncology/ Bone Marrow Transplant, and also completed her MSN at UCSF in Adult Primary Care NP with a specialty in Occupational and Environmental Health nursing. Emily worked as an Occupational Health NP, Principal Research Investigator, and Principal Program Manager at Genentech. Emily also worked as an Occupational Health Program Manager at Tesla. Emily has a passion for preventative care and lifestyle medicine and is board certified as an Occupational Health Specialist and as a Lifestyle Medicine Diplomat.
	Allyson Ochsner, RN, MSN Pronouns: She/Her/Hers	Allyson joined UHS in 2018 as a Clinical Nurse in the Travel/Immunization clinic. She received her BA from Washington University and her BSN and MSN from the University of Washington. Allyson has a special clinical interest in infectious disease, reproductive health, and public health and is a member of Medical Teams International’s Humanitarian Response Team.
	Chrissy Suhua Huang, RN	Chrissy Suhua Huang joined UHS in 2017 as a Registered Nurse in the Travel/Immunization Clinic. She received her RN from City College of San Francisco (2009) and her BSN from San Francisco State University (2013). Additional languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, and Toishanese
	Sara Wright, RN, WHNP-BC, ANP-C	Sara Wright joined UHS in 2020 in the role of COVID-19 Team Lead for the Travel/Immunization clinic. She was previously a nurse practitioner at Planned Parenthood in Oakland. Sara received her BA in Anthropology from Yale, her MA in Anthropology from Harvard, and her BSN and MSN from MGH Institute of Health Professionals. She is interested in reproductive health, reproductive justice, infectious disease, and addressing health inequities. Sara loves to travel to new places (near and far), spend time outside, and hang out with her husband and kiddo. Sara is board-certified as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) from NCC and an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) from AANP.

Primary Care

	Favian Castro, RN, MSN Pronouns: He/Him/His	Favian Castro joined UHS in 2017 as a Primary Care Nurse. He previously served as a Case Manager RN at La Clinica in Vallejo and Clinic RN at Ole Heath in Napa. Favian earned his ASN from Solano Community College (2014) and his MSN from Touro University (2016). He has a clinical interest in health promotion/disease prevention, diabetes management, wound care, and sexual health. Additional languages: Spanish
	Monica Garcia, RN Pronouns: She/Hers	Monica Garcia joined UHS in 2019 as a Registered Nurse in Primary Care. She received her BA from UC Berkeley and her MSN from UC San Francisco. Monica has a special clinical interest in reproductive rights. Additional languages: Spanish
	Carmen Lee, RN	Carmen Lee joined UHS in 2016 as a Registered Nurse in Primary Care. She received her BS in Nursing from San Francisco State University. Carmen previously worked at Asian Health Services, a community clinic in Oakland. She's especially interested in learning more about women's health. Additional languages: Cantonese
	Jenny Stockford, RN, PHN	Jenny Stockford joined UHS in 2003 as a Registered Nurse. She received her BSN and MSN from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Jenny has a special clinical interest in gynecology and sexually transmitted diseases. She is certified as a public health nurse. Additional languages: Spanish
	Stephanie DeLeon-Valencia, RN	Stephanie Deleon-Valencia joined UHS in 2018 as a Primary Care nurse. She received her BS from Binghamton University (SUNY) and her BSN from Northeastern University. Stephanie has a special clinical interest in health promotion, public health, diabetes management education, and behavioral health. Additional languages: Spanish
