Caryll Pineda Lab Manager

Caryll Pineda, MLS(ASCP)CM

Laboratory Manager

Caryll Pineda joined the UHS Laboratory team in 2021. Prior to joining UHS, Caryll worked at UCSF’s Clinical Cancer Genomics Laboratory as a clinical laboratory scientist specialist where she performed molecular testing that included the following: targeted gene sequencing, microsatellite instability testing and fragment analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and next-generation sequencing (NGS). With her years of experience not only as a CLS, but also in training molecular fellows and residents, Caryll considers herself to be an expert in solid tumor and blood and body fluid tissue extraction and DNA quantitation.

Caryll also previously worked as a generalist CLS at the Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center where she performed transfusion services, hematology and hemostasis, chemistry and urinalysis, and light microbiology. Afterwards, she transferred to the Bacteriology Department at the Kaiser Berkeley Regional Laboratories where she worked alongside some of the best and brightest public health microbiologists and CLS in the area. Caryll witnessed firsthand just how much dedication and care they put into the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Caryll received her BS in Biology with a concentration in Microbiology and earned her graduate certificate in Clinical Laboratory Science at SFSU. A Bay Area native, she’s an avid sports fan (GO Niners, Giants, and Warriors)!!! Caryll is devoted to her 93-year-old grandmother and tries to coax stories from her about the old days of her youth and her large family. She loves learning about languages and cultures that are not of her own, movies, music, food, and dogs.
