Rosemarie Bersabe joined UHS in 2018 as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. She received her BA in American Studies from UC Berkeley and her MSN-FNP from Samuel Merritt University. Prior to joining UHS, Rosemarie worked at the Indian Health Center in San Jose and the Tri-City Health Center in Fremont. She has a special clinical interest in health promotion and education, disease prevention, community health, and underserved populations.

Rosemarie is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Barbara Bodle

Barbara Bodle joined UHS in 1993 as a Nurse Practitioner. She received her BS in Nursing from Azusa Pacific University (1978), her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner from UC San Francisco (1986), and her MPH from UC Berkeley (1987). Barbara has a special clinical interest in college health, eating disorders, and women's health.

Dena Bushman

Dena Bushman, MSN, MPH

Dena Bushman joined UHS in 2016 as a Nurse Practitioner. She received her MSN from UCSF (2012) and her MPH from Johns Hopkins (2010). Dena is passionate about global public health and concurrently works at UC San Francisco on two HIV projects based in Kenya. She has a special clinical interest in dermatology, procedures, and sexual health. 

Dena is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Leah Bushman

Leah Bushman, MSN

Leah Bushman joined UHS in 2015 as a primary care Nurse Practitioner. She received her BA in Cognitive Science at UC Berkeley (2005) and her BS in Nursing and Masters in Nursing as an Adult NP from University of Washington, Seattle (2009, 2011).

Leah's past experience is in community health and she has a special clinical interest in women's health, chronic disease management, dermatology, and health education/prevention. As a UC Berkeley Alumna, she's thrilled to be back on campus.

Leah is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Melanie Deal joined UHS in 2014 as a Nurse Practitioner. She received her BA in biology from Reed College in Oregon and her MSN from UC San Francisco. Prior to joining UHS, she served as a clinician at the San Francisco State University Student Health Services.

Melanie has a special clinical interest in wellness, women's health, STDs, and contraception.

Melanie is board certified by the National Certification Corporation.

Arleen Ervin-King, RN, NP, MSN

Occupational Health Clinic

Arleen Ervin-King joined UHS in 2012 and serves as the Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner. She received her BS in Nursing from Samuel Merritt/St. Mary’s College (1999) and her MSN  from UC San Francisco School of Nursing (2004).

Arleen previously worked at the UC San Francisco Occupational Health Clinic for five years with a specific focus on work-related musculoskeletal injuries in her final two years. She also staffed the UC San Francisco Needlestick Hotline which provides continuity of care to UC San Francisco personnel who have had possible blood-borne pathogen exposure through needle sticks or other injuries.

Charlene Fernandez joined UHS in 2018 as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. She received her BS in Psychobiology from UC Los Angeles (2007) and her MSN-FNP from Samuel Merritt University. Prior to joining UHS, Charlene worked in Federally Qualified Health Centers for five years.

Charlene is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Julia Gourd joined UHS in 2016 as a primary care Nurse Practitioner. She received her MS in Horticulture from New Mexico State University and her MSN from UC San Francisco. Prior to joining UHS, Julia was a clinician at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte for 19 years.

Julia has a special clinical interest in women’s health, men’s sexual health, STDs, contraception, and working with underserved populations.

Sheng Hsu joined UHS in 2015 as a Nurse Practitioner. She received her BSN from Columbia University (2007) and her MSN from the University of California, San Francisco (2011). Sheng has a special clinical interest in primary care, disease prevention, health promotion, underserved populations, and Asian health.

Cathryn Imperato joined UHS in 2014 as a Nurse Practitioner. She received her BS in Biology and BA in Theatre from UC San Diego, her MSN in Adult Primary Care and Women's Health from Yale University School of Nursing, her DNP from Northeastern University, and is certified as an Adult and Women's Health NP.

Prior to joining UHS, Cathryn served as a clinician at Northeastern University Student Health and Counseling Services. She has a special clinical interest in infectious diseases (including HIV), eating disorders, women's health care, and addressing individual and systemic barriers to care.

Cathryn is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Michelle Kay joined UHS in 2014 as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary and Urgent Care. She received her BA in Religious Studies and Women's Studies from the University of Maryland and her BS and MS in Nursing/Family Health Nursing from Columbia University.

Michelle has a special clinical interest in queer and trans health, women's health, and dermatology. She serves as a primary care provider on our UHS Trans Care Team.

Maile C. Matier

Maile Matier joined UHS in 1998 as a Nurse Practitioner in the Medical Clinics, Urgent Care, and the Allergy/Travel Clinic. She received her BS in Nursing from the University of Arizona and her MN from Sonoma State University.

Maile has a special clinical interest in asthma, allergies, travel medicine, and women's health. She's one of three UHS clinicians who insert IUDs.

Maile is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses' Association and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Kate Murray, FNP

Kate Murray joined UHS as a nurse practitioner in 2017. Kate received her BA in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley (2003), her MSPH in Population and International Health from Harvard School of Public Health (2007), and her MS as a Family Nurse Practitioner from UC San Francisco (2014). She has a background in HIV and malaria research and is currently practicing full spectrum family practice. Kate has a special clinical interest in young adult health, travel medicine, contraception, and trans health.

Kate is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. 

 

Wendy Peterson

Wendy Peterson, MSN

Wendy White Peterson joined UHS in 2011 and serves as a nurse practitioner in the Primary Care Clinics. She is a family nurse practitioner and received her bachelor’s degree in theatre from Penn State University ('94), and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco.

Peterson spent six years working in Adult Community Medicine with Lifelong Medical Care in East and West Oakland.  She also taught at Lifelong, and for four years served as a preceptor for FNP students from UCSF. Peterson has special clinic interest in asthma, women’s health, pelvic floor health and chronic disease management.

Wendy is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Catherine Tanner

Catherine Tanner, RN, MSN, FNPc

Catherine Tanner joined UHS in 2012 and serves as a Nurse Practitioner. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She received her bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with a double minor in Studio Art and Psychology from San Jose State University ('96). She attended Samuel Merritt College for her RN and PHN ('05) and her MSN and FNP ('06). In addition to being a general practitioner with an interest in college health, she has special clinical interests in family practice and disease prevention.
