Arleen Ervin-King, RN, NP, MSN

Arleen Ervin-King joined UHS in 2012 and serves as the Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner. She received her BS in Nursing from Samuel Merritt/St. Mary’s College (1999) and her MSN  from UC San Francisco School of Nursing (2004).

Arleen previously worked at the UC San Francisco Occupational Health Clinic for five years with a specific focus on work-related musculoskeletal injuries in her final two years. She also staffed the UC San Francisco Needlestick Hotline which provides continuity of care to UC San Francisco personnel who have had possible blood-borne pathogen exposure through needle sticks or other injuries.

Arleen is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Karen Johal

Karen Johal, MSc, RDN

Karen Johal joined UHS in 2018 as the Health Education Dietitian. She received both her BS in Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics and her BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley, completed a Dietetic Internship at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and received her MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Surrey. Karen serves as the Diversity Liaison for the Bay Area District of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and volunteers with a UC Berkeley club that organizes free health clinics across the Bay Area (she also volunteered here as an undergraduate). She has a special clinical interest in weight management for overweight and underweight individuals, plant-based lifestyles, holistic health, and behavior change.
Carrie King

Carrie King, MPH

Carrie King joined UHS in 2017 as the WorkStrong Program Coordinator. Carrie worked as the Wellness Program Coordinator from 2014-16 for a Berkeley-based nonprofit devoted to providing sports and recreation opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities and/or visual impairment. She received her BA in International Studies/Political Science from the University of California, San Diego and completed her MPH at the University of California, Davis followed by a practicum with the UC Davis Staff and Faculty Well-Being Program.

Prior to joining UHS in December of 2017, Carrie spent part of the year managing outreach and promotion for MediCal and Covered California enrollment at a federally-funded community health clinic. She has a special clinical interest in workplace wellness and injury prevention, mindfulness, nutrition, physical activity, and health education and promotion.

Erika Schwilk, MD, MPH

Erika Schwilk joined UHS in 2011 as a physician in Occupational Health. She received her BA in Biology with environmental emphasis from Occidental College and her MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Erika completed training in internal medicine at UC Davis where she worked as a hospitalist. She then completed fellowship training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at UC San Francisco and obtained her MPH in Environmental Health from UC Berkeley.

Erika is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Preventative Medicine.

Dennis Shusterman 2018

Dennis Shusterman, MD, MPH

Dr. Dennis Shusterman joined UHS in 2014 as a physician in Occupational Health. Dr. Shusterman received his BA in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College (1971), his MD from UC Davis (1978), and his MPH in Environmental Health Sciences from UC Berkeley (1982).

Dr. Shusterman is the author of roughly 90 peer-reviewed publications and received the Clean Air Award for Research from Breathe California in 2013. He has a special clinical interest in glove dermatitis occupational rhinitis and asthma and vocal cord dysfunction.

Dr. Shusterman is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Preventative (Occupational and Environmental) Medicine.
