Insurance After Graduation

Whether you are graduating or leaving the University for a period of time, it is important to think about your insurance options. Please review our Post-Graduation or Leave Insurance Tips for information on deadlines and resources to transition your health insurance.

Insurance for Dependents

Berkeley SHIP offers comprehensive medical, behavioral health, dental and vision insurance for you and your family!

Voluntary SHIP plans are now available for the dependents of students enrolled in SHIP.

Prescriptions

Please note: As of August 1, 2018 - Pharmacy co-pays will be changing. Please check back for more updated information in the next few weeks.

At University Health Services Pharmacy

New for Fall 2018:

  • $0 for generics
  • $25 co-pay for formulary brand
  • $40 co-pay for non-formulary
  • $75 co-pay for specialty medications.
  • Birth control is covered at 100%; some conditions apply.

Medi-Cal Recipients

If You Plan To Keep Medi-Cal and Waive SHIP

First make sure that your insurance provides coverage for non-emergency medical care within 50 miles of UC Berkeley. Avoid having your waiver denied and take the necessary steps now to make sure that you have the necessary coverage before you need to use it.

The ASUC Student Advocate's Office is a student-run office that provides free and confidential advice and representation to students who experience issues or conflicts with the university. If after contacting the SHIP office, you would like additional support regarding SHIP, completing waiver appeals, or billing, please contact them at (510) 642-6912 or help@berkeleysao.org.

International Summer Session Students

Welcome to Berkeley!

All international students attending a UC Berkeley Summer Session must have health insurance that includes medical benefits and medical evacuation and repatriation of remains coverage in compliance with their visa requirements. Please contact or visit the Berkeley International Office for assistance with requirements and other resources.
