SHIP Referrals

No referrals needed to access medical and mental health care

Effective March 16, 2020, students with SHIP (Student Health Insurance Plan) are no longer required to seek a referral from University Health Services before accessing care. The referral exception will remain in place until further notice.

Choosing an in-network health provider 

To receive the maximum SHIP benefits, visit an in-network provider. To find in-network providers, visit the Aetna website and log into your member account or search as a guest in the "Open Choice PPO" network under "Student Health Medical Plans in California".

  • To locate off-campus mental health providers, see our CAPS Referral Database, or 
  • Visit the Aetna website and log into your member account or search as a guest in the "Open Choice PPO" network under "Student Health Medical Plans in California".
