SHIP Fees and Enrollment

All registered UC Berkeley students, including registered international students, are automatically enrolled in the Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and charged a health insurance fee on their CalCentral account.

Voluntary SHIP plans are available for concurrent enrollment undergraduates, filing fee graduate students, and students who have a formal medical withdrawal status or are on approved pregnancy leave. Dependent plans are also available...

Waiving SHIP

Summer Special Programs include:

1. Master of Financial Engineering - incoming March class only
2. Master of Laws (Executive Track LLM)
3. Incoming students in the following programs:
-Master of Public Affairs
-Master of Arts in Teaching (BTEP & PLI)
-Master of Real Estate Development + Design
-Master of Urban Design
-11-month Master of Public Health
-Master of Biotechnology
-Master of Computational Social Science

SHIP Waiver Requirements

I. All plans must provide unrestricted access to an in-network primary care provider, in-network hospital, and full non-emergency medical and behavioral health care within 50 miles of campus or the student’s place of residence while attending school.

Insurance After Graduation

Are you graduating or leaving UC Berkeley?

Whether you are graduating or leaving the University for a period of time, SHIP cannot be continued after the last day of coverage following graduation (December 31 or July 31). The ending of SHIP is considered a qualifying event that opens a 60-day special enrollment period for you to enroll in other insurance plans.
