Josephine Chen, NP

Charlene Fernandez, NP

Pronouns: She/her

Charlene Fernandez joined UHS in 2018 as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. She received her BS in Psychobiology from UC Los Angeles (2007) and her MSN-FNP from Samuel Merritt University. Before joining UHS, Charlene worked in Federally Qualified Health Centers for five years. 

Charlene is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Sheng Hsu, NP

Pronouns: She/her

Sheng Hsu joined UHS in 2015 as a Nurse Practitioner. She received her BSN from Columbia University (2007) and her MSN from the University of California, San Francisco (2011). Sheng has a special clinical interest in primary care, disease prevention, health promotion, underserved populations, and Asian health.

Sheng is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Katie Leach, NP

Pronouns: She/her

Co-Chair of the Transgender and Gender Diverse Care Team

Katie Leach (she/her) joined UHS in 2019 as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. She received her BA in Latin American Studies from UC San Diego in 2011 and her MSN from Yale University in 2014. She started her career working in community health centers and free clinics working predominantly with marginalized communities of color. In student health, she has worked at Yale University, UC Berkeley, and the University of Michigan.

She has a special clinical interest in helping people have safe and consensual sex with tools like contraception, STI testing, and STI prevention including HIV PrEP, HIV PEP, and DoxyPEP. She also provides gender affirming care, including gender affirming hormones as well as gender-inclusive primary care services. She is the medical co-chair of the Transgender and Gender Diverse Care Team, the primary care provider for folx living with HIV and cares for patients with Latent Tuberculosis infections.

Katie is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is also a certified HIV Specialist from the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

Jeff Ortiz, MD

Heather Readhead, MD

Dr. Heather Readhead joined UHS in 2018 as a physician in Primary and Urgent Care. She received her BA from Bowdoin College in Family Medicine, her MD from Penn State College of Medicine, her MPH from UCLA School of Public Health, and she completed her residency at Columbia University. Dr. Readhead also serves on the American College of Preventative Medicine's Diabetes Prevention Advisory Board. She has a special clinical interest in mental health, weight loss, women's health, preventive care, public health, and emergency disaster management.    

Dr. Readhead is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.   

David Turnoff

David Turnoff, MD 

Dr. David Turnoff joined UHS in 2013 as a physician in Primary and Urgent Care. Dr. Turnoff received his BS and BSE from the University of Pennsylvania and his MD from Case Western Reserve University. Having worked in student health services at both New York University and Columbia University, Dr. Turnoff comes to UHS with a wealth of college population experience. He has a special clinical interest in infectious disease, musculoskeletal injuries, travel medicine, and preventive medicine.

Dr. Turnoff is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Advice Nurse

Angela Bonaventura joined UHS in 2012 as a Registered Nurse in Urgent Care. She received her BA in Humanities from the New College of California and her associate's degree in Nursing from Chabot College. In addition to working at UHS, Angela volunteers on medical missions to support communities impacted by natural disasters.

Favian Castro joined UHS in 2017 as a Primary Care Nurse. He previously served as a Case Manager RN at La Clinica in Vallejo and Clinic RN at Ole Heath in Napa. Favian earned his ASN from Solano Community College (2014) and his MSN from Touro University (2016). He has a clinical interest in health promotion/disease prevention, diabetes management, wound care, and sexual health.

Stephanie Deleon-Valencia joined UHS in 2018 as a Primary Care nurse. She received her BS from Binghamton University (SUNY) and her BSN from Northeastern University. Stephanie has a special clinical interest in health promotion, public health, diabetes management education, and behavioral health.

Carmen Lee joined UHS in 2016 as a Registered Nurse in Primary Care. She received her BS in Nursing from San Francisco State University. Carmen previously worked at Asian Health Services, a community clinic in Oakland. She's especially interested in learning more about women's health.

Gina Pearson, RN

Primary Care Nurse Manager

Gina joined UHS in 2024 as the Primary Care Nurse Manager. Gina completed her BSN from Cal State University, Fullerton and is a certified Public Health Nurse. In addition to her bachelors in nursing, she holds a bachelors in History from UC Davis. She previously served as the Nurse Manager and Infectious Disease RN at One Community Health in Sacramento, as a Reproductive Health Program Coordinator at Elica Health Centers, and a Clinic RN at Adventist Mendocino Coast. Prior to her career in nursing she worked as a Data Manager in cancer research and as a Director of Operations in sustainable business. She has a passion for community and public health, reproductive and sexual health, infectious disease, preventative care, diabetes management, and reducing health inequities.

Jenny Stockford joined UHS in 2003 as a Registered Nurse. She received her BSN and MSN from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Jenny has a special clinical interest in gynecology and sexually transmitted diseases. She is certified as a public health nurse.

 Lisa joined UHS in 2005 and she's worked at the Appointment Office, Primary Care, Specialty, Urgent Care, and Occupational Health. She loves dancing, good music, entertaining her family and close friends, and admits to being a very good cook. Lisa is married to the man of her dreams and they have a cat, Nipsey, that they adore and love to spoil. Lisa and her husband are both believers in Christ Jesus.
