Allison Aiken, MD

Gabriela Baeza, MD

Dr. Gabriela Baeza joined UHS in 2023 as a Primary Care Physician. Dr. Baeza received a BA in Liberal Arts with a major in Philosophy, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994. She worked for the Social Security Administration and the Alzheimer's Association before returning to graduate education to undertake her studies in medicine. Dr. Baeza received her medical degree in 2010 from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her medical specialty training in Family Medicine in 2013. Her initial years of medical practice were spent teaching medical students and practicing full-spectrum family medicine at Rush University Medical Center. She later taught medical students and family medicine residents as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at UI Hospital and Health Sciences System in her hometown, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Baeza has a special clinical interest in women's reproductive health, depression, anxiety, and helping underserved populations. Outside of work, she enjoys travel, mild-to-moderate intensity hikes, searching for good eats, and spending time with family and friends.  

Dr. Baeza is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Amy Hockenbrock, MD

Associate Medical Director

Dr. Amy Hockenbrock is a board-certified family medicine physician with a certificate of added qualification in primary care sports medicine. Dr. Hockenbrock’s interests include sports medicine, LGBTQ care, and women's care. Dr. Hockenbrock was an undergraduate at UC Berkeley where she studied Molecular and Cell Biology and led Cal’s women’s soccer team to multiple playoff berths from 1996 through 2000.  

She received her M.D. from Chicago Medical School and then returned to San Jose for residency and primary care sports medicine fellowship at O’Connor Hospital. Following fellowship, Dr. Hockenbrock was an attending physician at Family Medicine Associates of San Jose before joining West Coast Sports Institute. From 2018-2019 she worked for Planned Parenthood as Interim Transgender Program Director for the Mar Monte region. Through this experience, she was able to combine her sports medicine knowledge with her expertise in transgender care. Dr. Hockenbrock recently rejoined the Cal community as an Associate Team Physician, bringing her skills in sports medicine and gender-affirming care to UC Berkeley.  

Annie Hope

Dr. Annie Hope joined UHS in 2009 as a physician in Primary Care. Dr. Hope received her BA from Harvard University (1986), and her MD from UC Los Angeles (1994), and completed her Family Practice residency at Moses Cone (1998). When she isn't working, you can find Dr. Hope hiking, reading, or driving her children (all five) to after-school activities.

Dr. Hope is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.      

Rachel Joseph, NP

Sandeep Lehil, NP

Sandeep Lehil joined UHS in 2019 as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. She received her BA in Public Health from UC Berkeley and her BSN/MSN from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

Sandeep has a special clinical interest in preventative health, integrative medicine, and mental health.

Sandeep is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Lara Saberon, NP

Lara Saberon was born and raised in Southern California (LA County) and went to UC Berkeley for her undergrad. After college, she attended Nursing school in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins, where she also worked as a Registered Nurse on a general acute medicine/telemetry floor while attending grad school. After graduating, Lara moved to NYC to start her FNP career. Lara joined UHS in 2022.

Before joining UHS, Lara worked in primary care/community health for almost four years at a Federally Qualified Health Center in the Bronx, NY

Deborah Simon-Weisberg, MD

Pronouns: She/her/hers

Dr. Simon-Weisberg (she/her) is a Family Medicine doctor who joined UHS in 2023. You can find her in primary care, urgent care, and the minor procedures clinic. She is the UHS Medical Director of clinical training programs, as well as the Project Lead for a developing medical scribe program. 

Dr. Simon-Weisberg is a California native and grew up in Fresno. She received a B.A. in Environmental Science from Barnard College, Columbia University, and an MD from The George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She completed her Family Medicine internship at Ventura County Medical Center and her Family Medicine residency at the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Simon-Weisberg spent most of her career practicing full-scope family medicine including hospital-based labor and delivery and newborn care in safety net healthcare settings. She also spent many years engaging in medical education and academic medicine. Before joining UHS, she was working at a local community health center, where she served as the Family Medicine Residency Program Director. Dr. Simon-Weisberg’s clinical focus at UHS includes primary care, reproductive health, gender-affirming care, substance use disorders, and minor procedures. She is fluent in Spanish and English.

Dr. Simon-Weisberg’s medical practice is informed by the recognition that “whole person well being” is impacted by an individual’s mind, body, lived experiences, community and structural barriers or structural advantages. 

Dr. Simon-Weisberg finds joy and mental health benefits from dancing Hip-Hop, Salsa, and Son. 

Dr. Simon-Weisberg is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Kimberly Taniguchi, NP

Kimberly graduated from UC Davis as an undergraduate and from Samuel Merritt University for Nursing school.

Her philosophy of care is to collaborate with patients and provide compassionate, comprehensive care for their bodies, minds, and spirits. Kimberly believes that education is crucial and strives to empower her patients by sharing tools and resources to help them make healthy decisions. One of her favorite aspects of working as an NP is when patients have that "light bulb experience" and feel like they understand what is happening in their bodies and have the information they need for their health journey. Kimberly is especially interested in healthy living and disease prevention.

Kimberly loves anything outdoors, including hiking and camping. She volunteers with Impact, a non-profit organization that serves inner-city elementary and middle school kids. Kimberly also enjoys reading, knitting, and trying to grow plants.
