CAPS Wait Times

October 29, 2019

Similar to college counseling centers across the country, CAPS is experiencing a high demand for individual counseling services. The wait time for an initial counseling appointment is currently a few weeks long, and we anticipate that this will be the case for the rest of the semester. Most students will be seen for one to two sessions before the end of the semester.

As always, any registered student experiencing a crisis should access CAPS urgent drop-in service:

Monday- Friday
10:00 am- 5:00 pm
3rd floor Tang Center

All registered students may also utilize the After Hours Crisis Line whenever CAPS is closed. Please call (855) 817-5667 to speak to a counselor.

Students should also consider the following resources:

  1. Therapists in the community: Community providers can see students more frequently and longer than at CAPS. If you are seeking medication evaluation/management, you might also consider a community psychiatric provider.

  2. For students with SHIP,Teladoc is another option for ongoing therapy and psychiatry services (medication management for mild-moderate depression and anxiety) through online video sessions.

  3. UHS Social Services is available for topic-specific counseling (i.e. relationship violence, eating disorders, and alcohol/other drug related issues).

  4. TAO is a new resource available to all students that offers an online library of interactive programs to help you learn life skills and tools to manage challenges such as stress and anxiety.

  5. Health coaching appointments are available through UHS Health Promotion.

  6. Otherself-help resourcescan also be found on our website.

  7. A fewCAPS Groupsare still open and are another helpful source of support.
