University Health Services at UC Berkeley is teaming with the National College Health Assessment to survey a randomly selected group of UC Berkeley graduate and undergraduate students about their health behaviors, risks, and needs.
Within the next week, you may receive an email invitation titled, "Complete the UC Berkeley Student Health Survey to be entered to win a prize" from ncha-web@acha.org. We hope you will agree to participate!
What is the goal of the assessment?
The National College Health Assessment (NCHA) is a random-sample, web-based research survey that collects data about students' health risks and protective behaviors, perceived norms, and prevalence of various health conditions. UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) and the American College Health Association (ACHA) are engaged in this research for the following reasons:
- UHS wants to better understand how students experience health while here at Cal. The data provided through this research will be used by UHS to prioritize needs, allocate resources, design strategies for intervention, and identify health factors associated with academic performance.
- ACHA wants to better understand similar issues around student health, but on a national level. The aggregate (group) data provided through this research will be combined with data from other participating colleges and universities to track student health outcomes, protective behaviors, risk behaviors, and perceived norms from a national perspective.
Will you know what I said?
Your study data will be handled as confidentially as possible. To minimize risks to confidentiality:
- Information provided as a result of participating will NOT be linked in any way to your UHS medical or counseling records.
- At no time will your name or e-mail address be placed next to your survey responses or publicly released indicating that you were part of the study.
- Only aggregate (group) statistics will be reported.
- A unique identification number will be attached to your survey and URL address and help protect your confidentiality. It will only be used to a) identify students who have not completed the survey in order to send a reminder, and b) select participants for the drawing.
- Data transmission is encrypted and firewall securities are in place.
- E-mail addresses and identification numbers will be destroyed after the data is compiled.
