National Physical Therapy Month

October 7, 2019

October is National Physical Therapy Month. Here are Five Tips to Move Past Pain:

  • Knowledge is Power — Understanding how pain works is a key strategy in managing it. Knowing how your brain and nerves work together can improve your chance of recovering sooner.
  • Keep Moving — Living an active, healthy lifestyle can help you feel great! Our bodies were built to move. Do so in whatever way is accessible and comfortable to you.
  • See a Physical Therapist — If you experience an injury or develop the onset of pain, seeing a PT early can help you address your concerns and reduce your chance of ongoing symptoms.
  • Focus Less on the Image — Diagnostic images give us little information about “why we hurt.” What shows up on an X-ray may or may not be related to your symptoms. Once imaging has cleared you, your PT will help optimize your quality of life with exercise, hands-on care, and education.
  • Consider Mental Health — Your chances of developing chronic pain may be higher if you’re also experiencing depression and anxiety. Talk to your medical provider about any mental health concerns during treatment or following an injury or surgery.
