My ex-boyfriend just got a new girlfriend and I'm surprised how upset I am about it. I'm showing signs of depression (near constant sadness, trouble sleeping, increased anxiety, hair loss, loss of interest in activities, etc.) and I can't help but think it's related to his new relationship. It's been over a year since we broke up. Is this normal? And how can I better come to terms with it?
Hi there, It sounds like you’re having a tough time. Feelings around breakups can take some time to sort through. Please consider taking advantage of campus or community medical and counseling services. If you are a Cal student, you can make a medical appointment (to check out the sleep and hair loss issues, for example) at 510.642.2000 and/or for feelings of depression, you can always call the Tang Center’s Counseling and Psychological services at 510. 642.9494. Also, there are several older posts that deal with how to handle break ups. For sure, reach out to friends to talk, get down a regular exercise program (to release those “happy hormones), try to do things you know will cheer you up. Take care.
