Contact Tracers

Darius Annis, MPH

Darius Annis joined the UHS Contact Tracing Team in late 2021, bringing 25 years of public health community-based research experience with him. Darius received his BS in African History from Coppin State University in Baltimore, MD, and he completed his MPH at George Washington University. Darius has a clinical interest in social equities and disparities, including maternal mortality in the African American Community.

When not working, Darius enjoys mountain biking, painting, gardening, and fishing.

Samantha Bell

Before joining the UHS Contact Tracing Team in late 2021, Samantha Bell worked as a COVID-19 test administrator for a community organization and as a behavioral assistant intern for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Samantha earned her BS from Syracuse University in Television, Radio, & Film with a minor in Sociology. She then spent ten years as a massage therapist before starting a new career in public health. At City College of San Francisco, Samantha received a Community Health Worker Certificate with a specialist certificate in HIV & Hepatitis Navigation.  Her clinical interests include health promotion, disease prevention, pain management, LGBTQ+ care, mental health, and sexual health. 

While away from work, Samantha takes a variety of dance classes, attends live music shows, and explores new places near and far. She is passionate about housing justice and volunteers in the tenants rights movement.

Ismail Jazbhay Contact Tracer

Ismail Jazbhay

Ismail Jazbhay was previously working as a contact tracer at the Contra Costa County Department of Public Health. He also has experience working as a health screener/health coach and within orthopedic and surgical nursing in hospital settings. Ismail received his diploma in Environmental Health from the Durban Institute of Technology and his BSN from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He was also trained as an Integrative Health Coach at Duke University.

More recently, Ismail received contact tracing training from John’s Hopkins Bloomsberg School of Public Health and participated in a COVID case investigation from UCLA. He has a clinical interest in communicable disease, holistic health promotion/disease prevention, and LGBTQ sexual health. Ismail loves to travel - he’s visited 13 countries thus far and has lived on three different continents.

Zak Kalp Contact Tracer

Zak Kalp

Zak Kelp graduated from Penn State University in 2019 and moved to California in August. He received two BAs in History and Political Science. Zak has a clinical interest in infectious disease and global health policy. He’s a huge Star Wars, Star Trek, and Marvel fan and enjoys playing and watching football and soccer. Berkeley is the first place Zak’s lived outside of his hometown in State College, Pennsylvania.

Kristina Lapira Contact Tracer

Kristina Lapira

Kristina Lapira received her BS in Human Biology from UC San Diego. Prior to joining UHS, she was a lab manager at an UCSD neuroimaging lab. Kristina has a clinical interest in mental health, mindfulness meditation, and women’s health. She likes reading, listening to audiobooks, taking pictures of her cat, going to concerts, watching mind-numbing reality TV, and bullet journaling.

Lauren Magdaleno, MPH, CHES

Before joining the UHS Contact Tracing Team in late 2021, Lauren Magdaleno spent the previous year doing COVID-related work with San Diego State University’s Health Promotion department. In 2016, she received her BA in Sociology & Anthropology at the University of Redlands and in 2020, she received her Master of Public Health in Health Promotion & Behavioral Science from San Diego State University. Additionally, Lauren is a Certified Health Education Specialist. Recently, the Journal of American College Health published a manuscript by Lauren that discusses the efficacy of a “front-of-pack” food labeling intervention on a college campus. 

Originally from Portland, OR, Lauren likes to hike and explore new places with her husband. She also enjoys cooking, reading, and playing Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Switch.

Daniel Peterson Contact Tracer

Daniel Peterson

Prior to join the UHS Contact Tracing Team, Daniel was reading UC Berkeley freshman applications for the admissions department and volunteering at a food bank. He received his BA in English from Swarthmore College and enjoys reading, skiing, and running long distances.

Shannon Peterson Contact Tracer

Shannon Peterson

Shannon Peterson recently earned her BS in Psychology with a specialization in human health and a minor in Global Health from UC San Diego. Prior to joining UHS, she was conducting COVID research and working at Sutter Health as a COVID screener. Shannon has a clinical interest in the impacts of food insecurity, COVID, and global health policies. She loves to hike, read, travel, and watch the SF Giants.

Gravity Rosales

Gravity Rosales joined UHS in late 2021as a contact tracer, having gained experience in this role while performing contact tracing at the Public Health Institute. Gravity hails from the East Coast, specifically Maryland near the DC area. In addition to Maryland, Gravity has family throughout the east, including Philadelphia, PA and Tampa, FL.

In their free time, Gravity likes to cook, bake and roller-skate.

Corinne Lamata Transport Coordinator

Corinne Lamata

Corinne is the transport coordinator with the COVID Response Team. Corinne’s career has spanned positions directing annual giving programs at UCSF, Stanford Medicine, and the SFSPCA, and heading up a local animal welfare agency.

In recent years, Corinne has chosen a new direction for her career. She’s been working at the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute since 2017 supporting equipment tracking and providing department assistance. Prior to that position, she had a temporary assignment at Berkeley Physics in development communications. Corinne is very excited to continue this fresh path by joining the amazing team at UHS in her new role.

Corinne received her undergraduate degree from Cal State East Bay and earned certifications in graphic design and event planning from UC Berkeley Extension. During the COVID shutdown, she increased her daily walks to about 5 miles a day. She loves to hike with friends in beautiful Bay Area locations.

Angela Rauch

Angela Rauch

Angela Rauch joined UHS in 2021 as vaccine site and COVID administration support. Prior to joining UHS, Angela was the fundraising and events coordinator at International House Berkeley for over three and a half years. She’s excited to join UHS. Angela received her BA from the University of Idaho. She enjoys taking walks, staying active, doing barre, and cross training. She looks forward to going to the movies again after the pandemic!
