My boyfriend and I have been dating for 6 months now, and I know I’m being silly but I’m hurt he’s never had a picture of the two of us as a Facebook profile picture! He’s had pictures of him with other girls, but never me! I don’t want to seem immature and superficial by bringing it up, but seriously, what's the deal?
I remember reading a quote once that said, “Facebook has the potential to ruin all relationships.” Well, at least that’s what I took from it. Facebook has this weird power over our generation. What happens on Facebook often is just as important and sometimes even transcends what goes on in real life. Those other girls that he has pictures of are in his past, and the reason that they’re still there might be the same reason that you’re not there. I’ve noticed that with age (and hopefully maturity), Facebook becomes less important, and real life takes over. I doubt he has any bad intentions behind not putting you up there – it probably just isn’t a big deal. If it’s still really bothering you, I suggest talking to him about it since bottling things in is not part of a healthy relationship but make sure you think critically and rationally about why it’s bothering you before you do. Whatever happens, just remember he’s dating you and cares about you. –Jazzy
Understandably, this situation is hurting you, especially since social networking has become such an integral part of our lives. However, it’s important to note that if your boyfriend doesn’t post a picture of the two of you, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care about you! Mama Luv would suggest looking at other ways he shows his love for you. And remember, the little things count! If you know he enjoys spending time with you and cares about you, it would be best to not let the Facebook picture situation worry you. In the meantime, keep your chin up, strut with confidence, and shake what your mama gave ya! Mama Luv is here to help. - Love, Mama Luv
