Tang Center SUMMER 2012 HOURS

We are closed for Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 28, reopening regular summer hours Monday, May 29. For after hours assistance when we are closed, click here.

Summer hours begin Saturday, May 12 - Saturday, August 25

  • Monday-Friday 8am-5pm general hours, with Urgent Care closing at 4:30 pm.
    Please check the schedule below for the hours of specific services during the summer.
  • Closed on Saturdays and Sundays (Saturday, May 12-Sunday, August 12), and holidays (Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 28 and Independence Day holiday on Wednesday, July 4)

After Hours Assistance See After Hours Assistance for information and referrals for urgent and non-urgent problems, prescription refills, emergency contraception, and other services that may be needed when Tang Center is closed.
Career Counseling Library Monday - Friday, 12 noon - 5 pm
CARE Services Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Appointments available during the noon hour.
Cashier Office Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4:45 pm (including noon hour).
Counseling (CPS) Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm (including nooon hour), except Thursdays 9 am - 4:30 pm
Emergency Counseling, Monday - Friday, 10 am - 4:30 pm
Ergonomics Showroom Call 1-877-722-9090 toll-free to schedule an appointment to try adjustable chairs, tables and keyboard trays prior to purchase. Appointments are available on Tuesdays from 8:00-10:00 am and on Wednesdays from 1-4:30 pm.
Health Net Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm (last appointment 4:30 pm). 24-hour medical coverage is available for emergencies, including during University holidays and inter-sessions. Call (510) 642-1976 when the Tang Center is closed.
Health Insurance Office Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm (including noon hour), except Thursdays, 9 am - 5 pm.
Health Promotion Unit Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Closed 12 - 1 pm. Reduced services during the month of July, with no front reception service. Call (510) 642-7202 to schedule appointments; messages are checked daily.
Laboratory Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm.
Massage Chair Located in the Health Promotion Unit. Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Closed 12 - 1 pm. Available by appointment only during the month of July.
Medical clinics
 Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Closed 11:45am - 12:45 pm.
Medical Records Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm (including nooon hour).
Occupational Health Clinic Monday- Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Closed 11:45am-12:45pm.
Pharmacy Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm (including noon hour). Closed 9:30-10:30am first and third Thursdays of the month. See Pharmacy Services if you need pharmacy assistance when we are closed.
Physical Therapy Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm (last appointment 4 pm). Closed 12-1 pm and Thursdays, 11 am - 1 pm.
Radiology Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Closed 12 - 1 pm.
Social Services Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:45 pm. Closed 11:45 am to 1 pm. The office will be closed all day Wednesday, June 6.
TB Testing TB testing is provided in the Specialty Clinic (first floor, Tang) on a drop-in basis. Please note: No TB tests administered on Fridays prior to Monday holidays.
  • Test administered:
    Mon 9:30-11 am, Tue 2-4 pm, Fri 2-4 pm
  • Test read:
    Thu 1-4:30 pm, Fri 1-4:30 pm, Mon 9-11:30 am; 1-4:30 pm
  • No tests administered on: Friday, May 25; Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day)

After Hours Assistance: When Tang Center is Closed

Service Hours
Emergencies For life-threatening emergencies, call 911. Also see Emergency/Crisis.
Urgent medical or mental health problems If you have an urgent medical or mental health problem that cannot wait until the Tang Center is open:
  • call the After Hours Assistance Line at (510) 643-7197 for immediate assistance. If you need to speak with a counselor urgently, you will be connected to the 24/7 counseling line. UC SHIP members may contact the Anthem Blue Cross 24/7 nurse line at (877) 351-3457.
  • find a local Urgent Care Center with extended hours.
  • find a phone number for a crisis/suicide prevention hotline
  • see information below on emergency contraception, dental emergency, pharmacy refills and other services that may be needed when Tang Center is closed
  • find a local emergency room
    (The closest to campus is Alta Bates Hospital, 2450 Ashby Ave., just east of Telegraph Ave.)

    Please note:     care may be at your own expense; emergency room charges are usually more than urgent care centers.
Non-urgent problems If your problem can wait until the Tang Center is open:

Cancel appointments Medical appointments:
Call (510) 643-7033, 24 hours a day, to cancel an appointment. You must cancel at least 24 hours in advance or you will be billed a Late Cancellation Fee.

Counseling appointments:
Call (510) 642-9494 (CPS) or (510) 642-6074 (Social Services) 24 hours a day, to cancel an appointment. You must cancel at least 24 hours in advance or you will be billed a Late Cancellation Fee.
Emergency contraception The Morning After Pill, used for emergency contraception (not birth control) needs to be taken within 72 - 120 hours of unprotected intercourse or a broken condom. (It is most effective if taken within 72 hours.) If you cannot wait for the Tang Center to open, check www.ec-help.org for pharmacies that provide emergency contraception. UHS Health Net members Call (510) 642-1976 to make an appointment. If you have an urgent problem that cannot wait until the Tang Center is open, please call After Hours Assistance at (510) 643-7197 to reach the on-call doctor.
Insurance authorization No authorization from the Student Health Insurance Office is required for visits to an emergency room or urgent care center when Tang is closed. Please provide facility with your Anthem Blue Cross card. Claims submitted to Anthem Blue Cross will be processed according to the SHIP benefits.

All follow-up care must be authorized in advance by the Student Health Insurance Office.
