Non-registered UC Berkeley students on filing fee, withdrawal
or concurrent enrollment status are not automatically enrolled
in SHIP and must apply for the plan in order to be enrolled. To
be eligible, a student must fall into one of the following categories:
Filing fee: In lieu of registration, UCB graduate students
who will file their master's theses or PhD dissertations within
the semester may apply to their academic departments for filing
fee status. This status is granted only once. Students in filing
fee status may enroll in SHIP.
Withdrawal: As with filing fee status, students must apply
to their academic departments for official withdrawal status.
Two types of withdrawal students may enroll in SHIP:
- UCB graduate students performing field research or working
on their dissertations
- UCB international undergraduate students who are required
to carry major medical insurance
Concurrent Enrollment: Undergraduate students in their
final semester of study who are completing degree requirements
by taking courses through UC Berkeley Extension's Concurrent Enrollment
program may enroll in SHIP.
