Student Self-Service Appointment Check-in Kiosks

The new Student Self-service Check-in Kiosks allow registered UC Berkeley students to check in for scheduled appointments in the lobby of Tang. This new service makes appointment check-in more efficient – less time waiting to check in at the clinics, and the ability to complete some forms and update contact information electronically. We know our student customers want to access as many services online as possible, and this is another great step forward in making our services easy to use. This new service was made possible by the student health fee - your health fee dollars at work!

Who can use this new service?
Registered UC Berkeley students with scheduled appointments for most services inside the Tang Center.

Who can’t use this service?

Faculty, staff, non-registered students, and non-student customers will not be able to use this kiosk. Customers always have the option to check-in for their appointments at their appointment location front desk.

What’s the benefit of using the kiosk?

  • Saves time – shorter lines at check-in locations.
  • Provides an easy way to complete administrative forms electronically.
  • Easy to keep student contact information updated for UHS use.

What appointments are not eligible for the Self-service Check-in Kiosk?

At this time, appointments for the Optometry Clinic at the Tang Center, TB drop-ins, counseling emergency drop-ins, Occupational Health, HealthNet, CARE Services, and services outside of the Tang Center (such as CPS satellite locations) are not available for check-in at the Self-Service Kiosks. Since Urgent Care is not a scheduled appointment, students will not be able to “check in” for Urgent Care through the kiosk system.

How do you use the Self-Service Check-in Kiosk?
You can use one of four computers located in the Self-service Check-in area of the lobby, or one in the CPS waiting area for counseling appointments, to check-in for scheduled appointments within 30 minutes before scheduled appointment time. There are five quick and easy steps:

  • Log in with your CalNet ID.
  • Complete forms if prompted.
  • Update your contact information.
  • Check in for your appointment.
  • Proceed to your appointment location, following instructions on final screen.

What if there is a problem using the new check-in system?

If you know where your appointment is, you may also go directly to that location to check-in in person. Should problems occur, please go to the Tang Center Information Center (to the right of the kiosks) for assistance, or to the CPS front desk if you are in CPS.

Why do I need to update my contact information? Is this the same as my billing information? Will this update or override Bear Facts data?
To ensure that University Health Services can provide you the best care, we want to make sure we have the most current contact information for you in our system. We may need to contact you for a variety of reasons related to your care at Tang, such as to follow up on a visit, let you know test results are ready, or to change your appointment.  The information you are providing is only updated in our records. Data will not be updated in Bear Facts. This will also not update information we have on file for your billing information, which is pulled from Bear Facts.

Why does Tang need a phone number to contact me? What type of information is shared over the phone or email?
We want to make sure we have the most current contact information you in our system if we need to contact you related to your care at Tang, such as to follow up on a visit, let you know test results are ready, or to change your appointment. We will never leave any information on answering machines; we will only request that you contact us for further follow up.

What if I have two appointments at Tang in the same day?
If your appointments are both within 40 minutes, you will need to check in at the front desk of your appointment location. If appointments are more than 40 minutes apart, please check in for each appointment prior to scheduled appointment time.

What else can I do electronically at Tang?
You can schedule many medical appointments online. If you schedule an appointment online, you may also cancel and change the appointment online.
