Summer Hours

Tang Center's general hours during the summer are Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm. All services are closed on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Please note that last check-in at Urgent Care is 4:30 pm.

Regular hours will resume Monday August 25; Pharmacy and Urgent Care will be open Saturday August 23 from 9 am - 5 pm.

Service Hours
Advice Nurse Call (510) 643-7197, Monday - Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm to speak with an Advice Nurse.
After Hours Assistance See After Hours Assistance for information and referrals for urgent and non-urgent problems, prescription refills, emergency contraception, and other services that may be needed when Tang Center is closed.
Appointment Office 8 am-4:45 pm, including lunch.
Career Counseling Library Monday - Friday, 10 am-6 pm. Open 12-1 pm.
CARE Services Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Appointments available during the noon hour.
Cashier Office Monday - Friday, 8 am-4:45 pm. Open 12-1 pm.
Counseling (CPS) Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm (except Thursday, 9 am - 4:30 pm) Open 12 - 1 pm. Drop-in counseling for emergencies, Monday - Friday, 10 am - 12 pm and 1 - 4:30 pm. Phone assistance available Monday - Wednesday and Friday, 8 am-5 pm; Thursday 9 am-5 pm.
Ergonomics Showroom Call 1-877-722-9090 toll-free to schedule an appointment to try adjustable chairs, tables and keyboard trays prior to purchase. Appointments are available on Tuesdays from 8:00-10:00 am and on Wednesdays from 1-4:30 pm.
Health Net Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm (last appointment 4:30 pm). 24-hour medical coverage is available for emergencies, including during University holidays and inter-sessions. Call (510) 642-1976 when the Tang Center is closed.
Health Insurance Office Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm, except Thursdays, 9 am-5 pm.
Health Promotion Unit Open May 23- June 27 and August 4- August 15, Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Closed 12-1 pm. June 30-August 1, limited staffing, no reception; messages will be checked daily.
Laboratory Monday - Friday, 8:30 am-5 pm. Open 12-1 pm.
Medical clinics
 Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm (Last appointment 4:30 pm). Closed 11:45 am-12:45 pm.
Medical Records Monday - Friday, 7:30 am-5 pm. Open 12-1 pm.
Occupational Health Clinic Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Closed 11:45 am-12:45 pm.
Pharmacy

Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm weekdays. Closed from 9:30-10:30 am on first and third Thursdays.

Physical Therapy Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Closed 12-1 pm.
Radiology Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Closed 12-1 pm.
Social Services Monday - Friday, 8 -11:45 am and 1-4:45 pm. Closed 11:45-1 pm. Reception closed July 21-25 and August 8: counseling staff will be available for walk-in appointments. Clients should leave a message at (510) 642-6074 .
TB Testing TB testing is provided in the Allergy/Travel Clinic (first floor, Tang) on a drop-in basis Mondays from 10-11:30 a.m. and weekdays from 2-4 p.m.. Closed on Wednesdays. This is two-step process, consisting of planting and reading.

Service Hours
Emergencies For life-threatening emergencies, call 911. Also see Emergency/Crisis.
Urgent medical or mental health problems If you have an urgent medical or mental health problem that cannot wait until the Tang Center is open:
  • find a local Urgent Care Center with extended hours
  • find a phone number for a crisis/suicide prevention hotline
  • call the After Hours Assistance line at (510) 643-7197 for referral information
  • see information below on emergency contraception, dental emergency, pharmacy refills and other services that may be needed when Tang Center is closed
  • find a local emergency room
    (The closest to campus is Alta Bates Hospital, 2450 Ashby Ave., just east of Telegraph Ave.)

    Please note:     care may be at your own expense; emergency room charges are usually more than urgent care centers.

Cancel appointments Medical appointments:
Call (510) 643-7033, 24 hours a day, to cancel an appointment. You must cancel at least 24 hours in advance or you will be billed a Late Cancellation Fee.

Counseling appointments:

Emergency contraception The Morning After Pill, used for emergency contraception (not birth control) needs to be taken within 72 - 120 hours of unprotected intercourse or a broken condom. (It is most effective if taken within 72 hours.) If you cannot wait for the Tang Center to open, check www.ec-help.org for pharmacies that provide emergency contraception. UHS Health Net members Call (510) 642-1976 to make an appointment. If you have an urgent problem that cannot wait until the Tang Center is open, please call After Hours Assistance at (510) 643-7197 to reach the on-call doctor.
Insurance authorization To request authorization for emergency care that you need or have received, please call the Health Insurance office at (510) 642-5700 on the next business day. See Health Insurance office regular business hours.
