Dear Cal Student,

As part of the University's alcohol prevention program, all incoming students are required to complete a confidential, online alcohol education course, entitled AlcoholEdu for College. The course uses science-based research to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, the course will help you make informed decisions about alcohol and better deal with drinking behavior that may occur around you. To take the course, you will need a computer with Internet access and audio capability. If you do not have home access to a computer, you can use any publicly-available computer with Internet.

The course consists of two parts, both of which must be completed to satisfy this requirement. All information you provide is confidential. Campus and AlcoholEDU staff will never see individual student surveys or responses.

Part 1
This part will take approximately two hours to complete.

It includes:

  • A pre-survey;
  • A pre-test of your alcohol knowledge;
  • The educational course;
  • An exam, which you must pass with a score of at least 75%; and
  • A post-survey.
You may access Part 1 of the course beginning July 20. The deadline for completing Part 1 is August 27.

Part 2

After you arrive on campus, you will receive an email with instructions completing Part 2 of the course. This part will take about 10 minutes to complete.

It includes:
  • Updated alcohol information;
  • A short video; and
  • A final survey
Both parts of the course must be completed no later than November 9 in order to satisfy this requirement.

 		 
 
Note to Transfer, Re-Entry and Older Students

Even though you may be of legal drinking age and/or may have already considered your drinking behaviors, we ask you to complete the program, because:

1) Your academic and social life at Cal may be affected by students whose drinking attitudes are less well-established than yours;

2) You may be asked by underage students to help them purchase alcohol. Are you aware of the legal and campus consequences of drinking with-or furnishing alcohol to-underage individuals?

3) You may learn something from the program, or re-think some of your attitudes and behaviors about alcohol.

4) As a new member of the campus community, you are responsible-as we all are-for helping to maintain the health and safety of our community. We believe that completing this course will support you to do so.
 
  All new students:
To login to AlcoholEdu, you must enter the course through the MyBerkeleyApp site every time. This way you do not need an AlcoholEdu login or password (but you do need your AppID and password for MyBerkeleyApp).

  • Log in to MyBerkeleyApp
  • Click on the Checklist tab on your home page
  • Click on the Alcohol Education Requirement link (goes to our AlcoholEdu information page)
  • Click on the "Go to Alcohol Edu" button (goes to alcoholedu site)


If you experience technical difficulties, the AlcoholEdu Online Technical Support Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For support, click the "Help" button in the upper-right corner of any active window in AlcoholEdu for College or call 1-866-384-9062. You do not need to be logged into the course to access the Help Site. Computers are available in campus libraries and at microcomputer facilities. If you live in the residence halls, you can also use computers in the Academic Centers.

As the parent or guardian of an incoming Cal Student, we welcome your involvement in our educational alcohol prevention program. Your student is required to complete Part 1 of the AlcoholEDU for College course prior to arriving on campus. The goal of the program is to help students make informed decisions as they make the transition into college life. We encourage you to take the course as well, and talk with your student about what he or she has learned and how this information might be useful in the future.

To take the course, follow these steps:
  • Go to: http://parents.alcoholedu.com/parent_login.aspx
  • Under New User, enter the Login ID: 7P110635PARENT
  • Click "Sign Up"
  • On the registration page you will create your personal AlcoholEdu account and a password of your choice.
  • You may log in and out of the course at the end of each section. DO NOT log out until you click the "Next" button or your answers for that section will not be saved.
  • When you return, log in as a Returning User and enter the same email address and password you created when you first logged into the course.
  • Enjoy the program and have a great conversation with your student.
