Counseling Services: Academic Concerns

Contents:

Academic Difficulties

During your time at Cal, you may find yourself struggling with issues such as difficulty with coursework, academic probation, academic self-confidence, procrastination, test anxiety, or learning problems, such as attention-deficit disorder. Working with a counselor in a confidential and nonjudgmental atmosphere can aid self-understanding and resolution of these concerns.

  • Make first-time appointment by calling Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) at 642-9494.
Academic Adjustments Due to Illness

When students get ill, they may need to adjust their courseload, or, in unusual situations, withdraw from the University for a period of time.

Medical Withdrawals

See Everything You Want to Know About a Medical Withdrawal.

  • Call 642-6074 for information or appointment.
Leaving School

Sometimes unexpected events occur that necessitate taking a leave from UC Berkeley. While leaving school is often a difficult and painful experience, CPS provides help to students in their transition. A number of services are available to inspire hope and confidence in undergraduates and graduate students taking short-term or permanent leaves from the university.

Individual counseling:
Counseling can be helpful in your decision-making and in dealing with the anxiety and uncertainty often associated with these changes.

  • Make first-time appointment by calling CPS at 642-9494.

Career Assessments:
Career assessments help students explore their interests, strengths and personality, which can be helpful in determining job options for the short-term or a complete career change for the long-term. Career testing is free of charge. You can review your results individually with a counselor at CPS.

  • Make first-time appointment by calling CPS at 642-9494.

Career Counseling Library:
The Career Counseling Library can help you explore alternative careers, majors and graduate programs. For more information, see Career Counseling Library.
